What to Wear to Work: Floral

My friend and colleague, Laura looks AMAZING in her floral print dress. It is perfect for a hot summer day in the DMV!

Laura wore this dress to work on Wednesday and I had to feature her on this blog. The colors compliment her skin tone and the print and colors made me happy when I looked at this dress. Laura’s beautiful smile is just the icing on the cake of this amazing outfit.imageWhat Laura is wearing:

Sounds from the Streets: DUPONT BRASS

Dupont Brass

Imagine coming into work on a Thursday morning, taking the metro and wishing that it was Friday but you have one more day to go to get to that magical day of the week! You get off of the metro, come up the escalator, and emerge outside – when you do, you get the best EARGASM ever!

Click here to sample their sound

It is DuPont Brass, an innovative brass brand comprised of students from Howard University. They began as a 5 member band trying to raise money for tuition and now have grown to 9 members and play at weddings, banquets, political events and other functions.

I actually look forward to Thursdays now, as I know I will get to hear their band play as I depart the metro and walk to work. It puts me in a good mood to see them working together to make such beautiful music and to know that they are doing what they love to do makes it even better!

I came to like DuPont Brass so much from the short time I get to listen to them as I come out of the metro that I decided to purchase their CD, Crewsin. It is amazing. The sound they create together is undeniable. You too, can purchase their CD.

Crewsin Sounds of the City Nighttime Cover-1

I promise you will love their story, their sound and their CD. Check them out and support in any way that you can. Here is a story that we need on the news. A positive story about a group of African Americans that are doing something positive!

Thank you, DuPont Brass for always making me smile on Thursdays!

Upcoming Events to see them LIVE:

August 15, 2015 – Fenton Street Market, Silver Spring,MD

August 18, 2015 – Music on the Mall, Washington, DC

September 1, 201 – Katrina Memorial Fair, Silver Spring, MD

Office Style: Neutral & Stripes

My favorite day of the week is Friday! It is the ending of the work week and the beginning of the weekend. Another thing I love about Fridays is that in my office it is casual dress day.

As the weather is getting colder in the DMV it is time to pull out the layers, jackets and boots. I absolutely HATE cold weather but the one thing that I do like about the colder temps is that I get to wear scarves! I love, love, love scarves. There are so many ways to wear them and accessories any outfit.

For Friday that just passed, I chose to wear neutral colors and accent with black & white stripes.

Something that you will come to learn about me is that I RARELY pay full price for any article of clothing or shoes. I am big on thrift shopping, closet sales, and clearance racks.

The Look:

  • Drape jacket by Inspire (purchased at a closet sale for $20)
  • Black & white striped shirt by Forever 21 (purchased at a thrift store for $2)
  • Jeggings by Mossimo (purchased at a thrift store for $3)
  • Boots by Target (purchased on Ebay for $20)
  • Necklace (bought at a closet sale for $5)
  • Crossbody bag by Urban Expressions (purchased at a closet sale for $10)
  • Scarf (purchased at a thrift store for $3)

My entire outfit cost under $100!!! Now that is what I am talking about! Looking stylish all while keeping some coins in your pocket!

What is your favorite outfit to wear on casual Friday?

Office Style: Smokin Hot AFRO

My friend and collegue Cyrstal really knows how to incorporate her afro into her office style.

She is gorgeous and I definitley have afro envy!  Crystal always dresses impeccably and knows how to accessorize her looks. With the weather getting cooler putting a long colorful jacket over a simple black dress is a great way to update your look for the fall.

The thing that I love most about her is that she is not afraid to try different styles with her natural hair. She will definitely be featured on Naturally Curvaceous again!
